A TRADITIONAL YORKSHIRE COUNTRY INN, EST SINCE 1964

The Chequers Inn at Bishop Thornton is on the doorstep of the Yorkshire Dales, next-door to the Spa town of Harrogate and the Vale of York, surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside, picturesque villages, grand historic buildings, ruins and gardens such as the World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey a mere 1 mile down the road. The Walker family have been running the Chequers Inn since Peter Walker purchased the site in July 1964.

With 12 gorgeous bedrooms and a luxury glamping pod, why not book a stay with us, then follow up with dinner in the bar or restaurant or one of our Sunday Carveries? We also have hard-standing touring pitches available for those wishing to bring their own campervan or caravan.

Upcoming events

Our opening times over the new year and into January will alter slightly:

New years eve and New years day we will be unfortunately closed.

Friday 2nd open as usual.

Saturday 3rd carvery night.

Sunday 4th open as usual.

The following week will then be open as usual until Saturday 10th which will be closed.

Sunday 11th will be cloesed

Wednesday 14th open but only for Bar (no food)

Thursday 15th Closed

Friday 16th open for fish and chips

Saturday 17th Closed

Sunday 18th OPEN

From then on we will resume usual opening times, sorry for the inconvenience but we have to let the hard working Chequers team have a little Break!

With so much to enjoy, explore and entertain in the local area, the Chequers Inn offers comfortable, affordable ensuite accommodation in which to take a break.

Whether it be wandering the country lanes and gardens, or perhaps exploring the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, browsing Harrogate's exclusive shops and galleries, or the cobbled alleyways and riverside walks of medieval towns, there's something for all tastes.

The Chequers Inn's famous, well established Carvery with head chef Michael Walker serves freshly roasted locally sourced joints of meat which include:

Tender Topside of Roast Beef
Succulent Roast leg of Pork with crispy crackling
Breast of Roast Turkey

All served with truly generous gigantic freshly made Yorkshire Puddings, a chance of seasonal vegetables, roast of creamy mashed potatoes, sauces and home made gravy.

Complemented by a heavenly choice of gorgeous, freshly prepared deserts.

Our Caravan Park

A spacious caravan park in a peaceful location surrounded by beautiful open countryside. The Chequers Caravan park has generous hard standing pitches in a quiet setting, perfect for relaxing, enjoying walks from the doorstep or exploring the varied local area.

As well as owner-occupied caravans on a static site open April to October there are touring pitches available. Motor homes and camper vans are welcome.

Glamping Pods

Enjoy our luxury Glamping pod, that is fully fitted with shower room, toilet, kitchenette double bed and a double sofa bed. Step out on to the decking for your alfresco dining and watch the sun go down, gas BBQ provided. Begin your walks or cycling from the door. Situated on the grounds of the Chequers Inn only 500yrds from the bar and restaurant. You are ideally based to enjoy all the sites of the glorious Yorkshire Dales, including the famous Fountains Abbey & Brimham Rocks. Towels, bedding and all kitchen equipment are included.
